Does anyone have any idea if this is too high or right. Also being new at this what is the diff between the 55 series verus the 4000 models. thanks

Joey,

I have been trying to get some feedback on this tractor myself. Is the model you are looking at 2wd or 4wd?

I found a JD 855 with 300 hours on it with finish mower for $8,000. ....

The 55 series are built lighter than the 4000 series. JD sold the 55 primarily for landscape work where the weigh is trouble on grass. The 50 series was heavier and more like the 4000 series in weight.
On book value the price is OK depending on the hours and shape. I would be looking more in the 15-16K range even with low hours. ....

It is 4 wheel drive. I went to the John Deere site and linked to search for used JD 855 tractors in the 1990's year. Search came back with about 8 or 10 that had prices in the $14,250 to $7,500 range and hours that ran anywhere from 135 to 1,200 plus. With most of the 1998 and 1997 model years were around $10K to $12K and had front end loaders and a mid mounted mower decks with 400 to 500 hours on them. I only found one with 1995 with a F.E.L. and back hoe so I'm still searching to great a better idea on pricing.

Joey,

I picked up my 855 yesterday. It is a 96 model and had 300 hours on it. Very well taken care of. It came with a king Kutter 5' finish mower and I got it for $8000. Mine is a 2 wheel drive though.

From what I gather, the accessories new from JD is around $6,000 for the backhoe and around $3,000 for the FEL.

I am not sure what price difference aftermaket items would cost. My next purchase will be the FEL. My tractor already has the control valve for it.

Good Luck on your decision. ....

I suggest you go to your local JD Dealer and get his best no trade price on a new 4210 with a 420 loader. THis model is probably closest to the 855 although the 4210 is more tractor. After you get the price you will have a better idea if the price on the 855 is reasonable. Price the 4210 with E-hydro and you should include the mid pto option as the 855 has it standard equipment. ....

Gunfighter,
That was probably 18,500. It is 4WD and has a loader and backhoe, and it is green.

Peters, Do you know how much lighter an 855 is than 4115? or maybe I should just ask if you know how heavy an 855 is? Can any weight disadvantage be simply solved by adding factory or home-made weights? Are there any other significant functional differences? (I'm considering buying a used tractor, but finding specifications and data on older models hard to come by.)

Thanks ....

My 755/855/955 JD operators manual says the 855 is 24 hp and weighs 1870 lb with 4WD and R1s. The loader it usually comes with is the JD 70A, and I am guessing it weighs at least 800 lb. I have a 955, which is the same machine with
a 33 hp motor and 120 lb more weight. I just sold a 955 4WD
with about 550 hr and loader and new engine for $8200 in CA. I have seen many listings nationwide for up to $12K for similar 955s.

....now who's gonna give me a good deal on an L3130? ....
